Yard Sales, Furniture Ideas and My Spooky Halloween Village

We have a little cooler weather here in South Florida. It's super breezy, which made setting out to yard sales in the neighborhood a delight!  There were quite a few sales and some interesting things to consider.  In the end, I came home with a few additions for my Halloween Department 56 vignette.  Pretty great prices.

But I wanted to post a few of the items that I saw in my day that I thought had potential and talk about why I thought this.  First, I saw this simple coffee table.  It had a price of $25 on it, which I don't believe the seller had a chance to get for it.  I might have tried to negotiate something because I saw great opportunity with the table.  My blogging friend, Korrie of Red Hen Home is practically famous for this fabulous coffee table (image below) and I could see the same technique translating to this piece. Don't you?!  I left it behind because I currently do not have the room for it and my friends who could have potentially use it haven't gotten to the point of making decisions of this nature.

I also saw this entertainment center for sale for $150, or 'make an offer.'  I got the feeling from the seller that they were pretty desperate to get it out of their apartment.  If it didn't sell, I wouldn't be surprised to see it curbed in a few weeks.  Just a gut feeling.  I see a lot of entertainment centers for sale.  With the increasing size and affordability of large flat screens, many of them will not house the larger screens.  This one can be retrofitted, which makes it of interest.

I also saw this desk that I think is a diamond in the rough. With the correct color choices, it could be a doll baby.

I don't know if you can see in the image of the desk above, the bamboo details.  Great potential.

So, I returned home with a few new pieces for my Halloween vignette. My daughter and I got to work and put it together.  Fun stuff.  Here are a few images.  I always have a tough time getting good images of my village.  The lighting is tricky.  Hope you don't find them too spooky!! Boo!

Caramel apples anyone?? I'll take one! No matter the cost to my pocket or my waist!

Wow your Halloween vignette is pretty mind blowing... there is so much work in something like that, but it looks so great and I am sure your daughter will always remember putting them together with you. Thanks for stopping by my blog and the encouragement regarding my lack of coordination, but I wasn't exaggerating, my husband blanched and visibly paled when I mentioned using and awl!! xx

I love that Dept. 56 Halloween stuff. Have a few pieces myself and it is so cute! It would be neat to find more at a yard sale though!

Your Halloween village is darling! Thanks for the mention...I would have loved that table! Your comment about "practically famous" is funny; I still get more hits on that "old" project than on some of my newer ones! I hope some of those great pieces you saw found good homes.

Looks like you and your daughter had fun creeping out your Halloween decor. I just realized that I don't have a single Halloween item up. I better get that stuff out of storage before it's too late!

That little desk and chair is adorable!
